TMG announces international deals for new major series event THE NAME OF THE ROSE
Pre-sales include German speaking Europe, France, Finland, Norway and Denmark
Tele München Group (TMG) announced today that it has reached new agreements with leading distributors around the world on the major event series THE NAME OF THE ROSE based on Umberto Eco’s highly acclaimed worldwide bestseller.
SKY will distribute in German speaking Europe, while other pre-sales include ORANGE in France, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway and DRtv in Denmark.

The cast of the event series includes among others Emmy Award® winner John Turturro (“The Night Of”), Emmy Award® winner Michael Emerson (“Lost”, “Person of Interest”), Golden Globe® nominee Rupert Everett (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”), German shooting star Damian Hardung (“Red Band Society”), Sebastian Koch (“Homeland”), James Cosmo (“Game of Thrones”), Richard Sammel (“Inglourious Basterds”), Fabrizio Bentivoglio (“Human Capital”) and Greta Scarano (“In Treatment”).
The Euro 26 million series is produced by 11 Marzo Film, Palomar and Tele München Group in association with RAI Fiction and based on the award winning worldwide bestseller by Umberto Eco, which was first published in 1980 and sold more than 50 million copies to date. The world premiere of THE NAME OF THE ROSE will take place in spring 2019. TMG’s world sales unit TM International handles the worldwide distribution of the series. The 19 week shoot is currently underway in Italy.
Italy, 1327: The Franciscan monk William of Baskerville (John Turturro) and his novice Adso von Melk (Damian Hardung) arrive at a secluded monastery in the Alps, where they become witnesses of a series of mysterious murders. While Baskerville and Melk are investigating and searching for the killer, they are hunted themselves by the merciless inquisitor Bernard Gui (Rupert Everett), who prosecutes those who criticize the pope. In fact, Gui sets out to terminate the Franciscan Order itself and so, Baskerville is on the top of his list.
The screenplay was written by Andrea Porporati (“Il dolce e l’amaro”, “La Piovra”) and Emmy Award® winner Nigel Williams. The award winning Italian filmmaker Giacomo Battiato (“L’infiltré”, “Karol: A Man Who Became Pope”) co-wrote the screenplay and directs the series. The award winning John Conroy (“Luther”, “Penny Dreadful”) is director of phtography. The costume designer is Academy Award® nominee Maurizio Millenotti (“Passion of Christ”) and Emmy Award® nominee Francesco Frigeri (“Medici”, “The Legend of 1900”) is responsible for the production design.
