Visceral visual stimulation by the truckload is what BLACK DOG hauls into town! It’s foot to the floor, pedal to the metal, motorised mayhem as ex-convict Jack Crews (Patrick Swayze) takes to the road to deliver a secret and deadly load for $10,000, thus saving his family home from bank foreclosure, proving he’s a good husband and dad after all and, naturally, fighting his own personal demons on the way!
In true road movie tradition, our hero’s up against bullets, bad guys, the FBI and a boss (Meat Loaf) who’s singing from his own song sheet! And then, of course, there’s the ominous and haunting Black Dog of the title...
Patrick Swayze delivers as always! This multiple Golden Globe®
nominated star (“Dirty Dancing”, “Ghost”, “Donnie Darko”), knows exactly what’s called for and serves it up in spades for fans who love the road and similar classics such as “Cannonball Run” and “Smokey and the Bandit”.
Meat Loaf needs no introduction. Larger than life as always, he positively oozes menace and sleaze here: the casting’s perfect.
Genre entertainment as straight and honest as it comes, BLACK DOG has no pretensions other than to entertain, which it does superbly.
