A fatal illness mars the happiness of a young family. When the family's business also runs into problems, they call on a friend to put some order into their affairs. While he manages to restore the financial well-being, he inadvertently shakes the foundations of the couple's conjugal happiness...

High production values with on-location shooting in picturesque Scotland. A distinguished international cast: James Wilby ("Gosford Park"), Muriel Baumeister ("The Amber Amulet") and Tim Dutton ("Ally McBeal").

The name Pilcher stands for romance on the page and the screen; now, Rosamunde Pilcher's son Robin takes up the torch with TV adaptations of his NY Times best-selling novels - younger-skewing, more realistic, more in tune with the times. Romantic passion with a nimble foot and a smile on the lips.

Scotland. A bracing sea breeze blows through the hair of Katie Trenchard and her young daughter Sooty as they race along the coast. But there is a shadow on Katie's high spirits, for her husband Patrick is suffering from an incurable illness, and the family business is going downhill. London. Investment banker Dan Porter angrily quits his job. And feels free at last. But he won't be out of work for long. His old friends from Scotland, the Trenchards, ask Dan to help put some order into Katie's and Patrick's financial and business affairs, which they are unable to manage adequately because of Patrick's health. Though he's in an advanced stage of illness, he tries to fight it with all his power. Nevertheless, Patrick's imminent death casts a pall on the family. When Katie becomes aware that her feelings for Dan go beyond mere gratefulness, she asks him to go back to London. Patrick realizes that he must take fate into his own hands...
