We Love Cinema. Tele 5 - The Movie Station In the late 80s, TMG collaborated with other partners to found the free TV station Tele 5. After making structural changes in the organization, it became Deutsche Sport Fernsehen (German Sports Television). In 2002, TMG decided to form a new national TV station using the name Tele 5, which had already been successfully established. The movie station was successfully repositioned in September 2005 after the technical range was expanded, which is meanwhile over 90%. Since its repositioning as a movie station in September 2005, Tele 5 represents the entire world of cinema. "We love cinema" is the mindset of the station, which caters to all friends of the cinema. Tele 5 is committed to the challenge of reliably offering a glamorous mix of premieres, highlights, and classics in all genres. The exclusive weekly show 'Wir lieben Kino - Das Magazin' ("We Love Cinema - The Magazine"), with moderator Miriam Pielhau, also caters to the world of cinema and presents news from the film industry. Starting in January 2007, Thomas Gottschalk will present his own personal view of films each week before the Tele 5 movie magazine in 'Ich liebe Kino - Gottschalks Filmkolumne' ("I Love Cinema - Gottschalk's Film Column"). Each week, more than 50 movies can be seen on Tele 5. Under the labels 'Meisterwerke' ("Masterpieces") and '5 Sterne Kino' ("Five Star Cinema"), Tele 5 shows film highlights and classics such as "Ben Hur", "The Towering Inferno" and "Doctor Zhivago", sophisticated dramas like "Vera Drake" and "The Shipping News", or cinematic masterpieces like Milos Forman's "Ragtime", James Ivory's "The Remains Of The Day" or Clint Eastwood's "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil". In addition, in 2007, Tele 5 will show anti-war movies such as "All Quiet On The Western Front" and "Casualties Of War". Successful comedies like "The Birdcage" or "Being John Malkovich" also appear on the program. As always, top-class stars are also involved, for example in "Sudden Impact" with Clint Eastwood, "Telefon" with Charles Bronson, or "The Client" with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. In addition, Tele 5 offers the viewers free TV premieres like the thriller "The Barber" with Malcolm McDowell doing what he does best: play the psycho, or the romantic comedy "American Princess". In the popular series 'Western Legenden' ("Western Legends"), there are weekly highlights, such as "Rio Bravo", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" or "Il grande silenzio", and also sophisticated neo-westerns like "The Claim" with Milla Jovovich and "Geronimo: An American Legend" with Matt Damon. The award-winning mini-series "Lonesome Dove" with Robert Duvall and "Return To Lonesome Dove" with John Voight are also new to the program. In addition, there are regular program events and specials like 'Ladies Night' -- movie nights with no commercial breaks -- as well as weeks and evenings with interesting themes and mottos. The success of its repositioning has already evidenced itself in rapidly growing market shares, especially during prime time. In its first year, Tele 5 more than doubled its market share for all viewers, an increase from 0.4% to 0.9%. The technical reach is approximately 90%, or 32 million TV households. The Managing Director of Tele 5 is Dr. Ludwig Bauer, who is also responsible for the entire TV station division of the group at TMG. To visit the homepage of Tele 5, please click here: |
